  • As well as regular parties that take place throughout the various rooms of this multimedia venue, DJs play before and after the live bands that appear on both stages. Most Saturdays there is a late-night dance party (see Melkweg).

  • Less definitely is more at this hip, minimalist hangout, owned by the proprietors of the Supperclub and Nomads, the equally decadent, Arabian-style restaurant located upstairs. Amsterdam’s beautiful people descend here at weekends – but only when they feel like it.

  • Modern, minimalist space next door to Land van Walem. Impressive menu.

  • If you’re tired of the Rembrandtplein, pop round the corner to this authentic Irish bar for some goodcraic .

  • A free-entry lounge club with a plush, carpeted interior – complete with armchairs. It’s open daily, and delightfully decadent, although the drinks are a little on the pricey side.

  • Noa

IT wizards, followers of fashion, advertising executives and other representatives of hip, young Amsterdam crowd in to the place that set the trend for the new lounge bar scene. Rub shoulders with all of the above as you knock back the drinks or slurp up Japanese noodle soup before heading off to party the night away somwhere else (see Noa).

  • A stunning combination of historic Amsterdam and sophisticated modern style. The Odeon has it all from a café, restaurant, cocktail bar to a concert hall which doubles as a night club. The ultra-chic interior is within a building that dates back to 1662 by one of the city’s loveliest canals.

  • More of a wintertime bar, “Under the Stork” is warm, wooden and spacious.

  • This peaceful bar opens around 8pm in the evenings and stays open later than most. The premises extend in the summer to an outdoors terrace on a fairy-lit barge.

  • Monied 30-somethings with a penchant for champagne make the trek to this lavish, vaudeville theatre-style club with attached bar and restaurant on the east side of town. Entry is expensive; the drinks aren’t cheap either.
