Hoppe
-
The dark wooden interior and tang of cigar smoke in the air are the very essence of the classic “brown café”. Pink-faced old men enjoying one too manyjenevers , smart young professionals on the way home from work, friends meeting up for beer and a gossip, populate this cheery Amsterdam institution (see Hoppe).

Cafe Hoppe is one of the oldest tavern in Europe. They started their business back in 1670. The place is quite small and usually very crowded during the weekend. I visit the place a Wednesday around eight o'clock in the evening, when there wasn't to crowded, and had the chance to speak with the polite gentlemen who worked there. Very rewarding. If you go to Amsterdam, do not miss this place! Take a look at the fantastic interior here: http://daniel.premback.se/index.php?showimage=18
