    Climb Amsterdam’s tallest tower to see the attractive jumble of the Jordaan below(see Westerkerk).

    The city’s most impressive canal views are from the sixth-floor café and the cupola perched on top (see Metz & Co).

    The round window on the top floor offers a terrific view of Dam Square.

    From this peaceful square at the junction of Reguliersgracht and Prinsengracht, there are pretty stretches of the canal in both directions.

    Put Thorbeckeplein behind you and count 15 bridges from this junction – a spectacular sight after dark.
