  • Are these details incorrect?
  • 1. Taverna Vakhos

Though Delphi’s sites and scenery are fantastic, the same cannot be said for its culinary offerings. This family-run establishment is the exception. It cooks good taverna fare accompanied by views across the Corinthian Gulf.

  • 2. Topiki Gefsi

Respectable taverna food and a nice view, even if the service does leaves something to be desired.

  • 3. Barko tis Maritsas

A most popular taverna, open year round on the beach. Mussels are the local speciality – baked, fried or served in sauce. The homemade vegetable pies are also good.

  • 4. Taverna Porto

This waterfront taverna makes a good stop after a day of swimming. Feast on large plates of cheap, tasty local seafood.

  • 5. Karaouli

A simple, traditional, delicious taverna. Be sure to try the spicy Arachova sausage and stuffed peppers.

  • 6. Kaplanis

Flavourful taverna classics in a rather fancy room with gilded chandeliers. In spring, be sure to try the fried courgette (zucchini) flowers. Year round, sample the fromila (barbecued cheese).

  • 7. Babis

A good place to warm up on a cold winter’s weekend – the crackling fireplace casts a glow over everything. Go for a bowl of hot, aromatic stifado stew (see Stifado).

  • 8. Emboriko

People come here après ski to warm up with coffee, drinks and snacks. Simple evening meals include pasta, casseroles and steaks.

  • 9. Paradissos

An unpretentious taverna on the road to the northernmost tip of Evia. Enjoy the verdant setting, tender lamb and freshly dug potatoes.

  • 10. Kapetanios

Sit by the church and sample a wonderful array of seasonal seafood, raw or fried with cheese.
