Top 10 Mid-Range Hotels
-
1. Hotel Plaka
This hotel is great value for its unbeatable location between Plaka and the shopping street of Ermou, and for its warm and simple but stylish rooms. The roof garden looks out to the Acropolis.
-
2. Electra Palace
Probably the nicest place to stay in Plaka, this stylish, modern hotel has a cleverly constructed mock Neo-Classical façade. The pool on the roof, with an Acropolis view, is a great place to cool off after a day of sight-seeing.
-
3. Adrian
The Adrian offers rooms that are small, clean and serviceable, if somewhat sterile, in the heart of Plaka next to Hadrian’s Library. The rooms have small balconies and the roof garden has lovely views. The café-filled square below is a nice place to sit, but can get noisy at night.
-
4. Acropolis Select
This is one of the best deals in town. For only a little more than most budget hotels, you get a stylish restaurant and lobby, and bright, comfortable rooms with room service, satellite TV, business amenities, and, if you ask, Acropolis views. Though not located in a tourist neighbourhood, it’s within an easy walk of most sights.
-
5. Herodion
Located in a quiet neighbourhood just below the Acropolis, this attractive, modern hotel has comfortable, newly decorated rooms, the pale green and light wood accents of which feel cool and relaxing after a day touring the sights. Other features include internet connections in every room and a flower-filled breakfast atrium.
-
6. Amalia
Price and location (on Plateia Syntagma, directly across from the National Gardens) combine admirably. The rooms are comfortable, functional and, despite facing a noisy major road, surprisingly quiet.
-
7. Athens Cypria
Located just steps away from the bustle of Syntagma and the top-notch shopping of Ermou, the Cypria’s recently renovated rooms are clean and comfortable, if a little bland and uniform. A hefty breakfast buffet offers hot and cold dishes until 10am.
-
8. Esperia Palace
A good central option for a short stay, located on one of the city’s busiest streets. Rooms are quiet and tastefully furnished, and offer a wide range of facilities. Rooms above the seventh floor have Acropolis views.
-
9. Titania
Capacious rooms and bathrooms for this price bracket, and the hotel’s in a central location too. However, though close to the sights, bear in mind that this is the gritty, rather than glamorous, end of central Athens.
-
10. Omonia Grand
This bright, modern, stylish hotel, run by the Grecotel chain, is one of the projects aimed at sprucing up Plateia Omonia. So far, it has gained a good name for the hip decor, comfortable rooms and friendly staff.
