4rt Montfalcón

Housed in the 15th-century Palau Castanyer, this enormous shop stocks posters, photos, oil paintings, souvenirs and prints of works by well-known Spanish artists.

“Be original, buy original” is the motto at this jam-packed, friendly, little shop. Poke through racks of retro-wear and T-shirts printed with Mexican religious icons, Indian motifs or Mao’s face.

Atalanta Manufactura

This shop’s delicate, hand-painted silks are created in an on-site workshop. Unusual designs include a Klimt-inspired, gilded silk.
Avinguda Diagonal

Big and brash, traffic-choked Diagonal is hard to miss, a cacophonous avenue that cuts, yes, diagonally across the entire city. It is a premier shopping street, particularly west of Passeig de Gràcia to its culmination in L’Illa mall and the large El Corte Inglés department store near Plaça Maria Cristina. Lining this long stretch is a host of high-end clothing and shoe stores (Armani, Gucci and Versace among them), interior design shops, jewellery and watch purveyors, and more.

Superb design shop in Modernista Casa Tomàs, selling the best in Catalan furniture. Worth a visit to see the exhibition furniture by the likes of Gaudí and Dalí.

Book & Coin Market at Mercat de Sant Antoni

For book lovers, there’s no better way to spend Sunday morning than browsing at this market (west of the city). You’ll find a mind-boggling assortment of weathered paperbacks, ancient tomes, stacks of old magazines, comics, postcards and lots more, from coins to videos.
