A mixed crowd drifts in to read the paper or smoke a Havana cigar with a post-lunch carajillo (coffee and cognac). Excellent coffee.

Sorry, I do not agree with the commentary here given. It is quite frankly one of Barcelona's tourist traps even for the spanish. Admittedly it is located in a nice area, but when a packet of crisps costs 2E 25: the same for a poured beer 25CL and a bottle beer 33CL. The price parity gives way to pure profiteering. The location for sitting and reading is again bad. There's lot nicer, quieter places in Barcelona. I asked why the disparity and was shirked off the beer from the barrel is expensive.. my spanish companion was replied with. Well, yeah .. but I asked why she already said why it costs the same.... I found no ambience nor real at ease with this place. If you want tranquility there are a mountain of other cuban bars and restaurants in the gracia area. Having lived in BCN 2.5 years there's better experiences to be had elsewhere. Situated on a noisy road or on a terrasa found in the born or gracia away from constant sirens is where I'd choose to read. Better prices and with salt of the earth people, not tourists who may not know they're being ripped off [as well as spaniards]. Not often I find a place annoying.. but the total we don't care attitude kinda says a lot when you're looking for place to chill and feel at home.
