  • Newton-Bar

The best cocktails in town are mixed at this elegant bar in Gendarmenmarkt. Service is charming and the fastest in town, and in summer there’s even a fold-down bar on the pavement outside. Heavy leather armchairs make for comfortable sitting, and the walls are adorned with enlarged photographs of nudes by Helmut Newton, after whom the bar is named. Highly recommended: the Caribbean and Latin-American cocktails – chin-chin!

  • In a former socialist fruit store, O & G’s DJs create a flirtatious atmosphere for young Mitte lovers.

  • Completely furnished in leather, this small but elegant bar in the historic Opernpalais is an ideal stopping-off point for night owls, after an evening at the opera.

  • Go Russian at this Moscow-style venue, with borshch, Russian music and vodka.

  • Surprises at Prater include a beer garden, a rustic restaurant in the courtyard, and free live concerts.

  • Reingold

Portraits of 1930s writers Erika and Klaus Mann adorn the walls of this bar, which is friendlier and more intimate than most other bars in Berlin. The cocktails are excellent.

  • This restaurant offers sophisticated cuisine and surroundings; light fish dishes and salads in summer, game and roasts in winter.

  • This venerable restaurant still pulls in the crowds with its deliciously light German cuisine.

  • An elegant, cool and trendy bar free from hooligans, named after an Italian soccer player.

  • It’s the gambling that draws punters to Sky Club but, at night, the views of Berlin from the 42nd floor are truly spectacular.
