  • The “Uncle Tom’s Hut” settlement, developed in 1926–32 according to designs by Bruno Taut and others, was intended to create a modern housing estate for workers, unlike their old narrow, dark tenement blocks.

  • The Baroque palace of 1753 has maintained its original elegant interior.

    The light yellow Baroque palace, built in 1701–4, has been transformed into Podewil, a cultural centre and one of the best places for contemporary music.

  • Prinz-Eisenherz-Buchhandlung

    Germany’s oldest openly gay bookstore stocks the entire range of German and international gay and lesbian publications. Its knowledgeable bookshop assistants will track down rare or out-of-stock titles at your request. The bookshop also hosts frequent literary readings.

  • Rathaus Schöneberg

    It was from this Town Hall, on 26 June 1963, that the US President John F Kennedy made his famous speech, declaring “I am a Berliner” and expressing his commitment to the freedom of West Berlin.
