  • A well-run hotel, centrally located in Charlottenburg, not far from Messegelände (exhibition grounds), in a picturesque spot on Lietzensee. Apart from a beautiful indoor pool, the hotel also has a delightful sun terrace, which overlooks the lake.

  • Housed on two floors of a former industrial building, this international youth hostel is located in a lively area close to the town centre. It has large rooms, sleeping up to six people.

  • This country-house hotel, located in the middle of the Spreewald lake district, has great facilities including pool, steam rooms, saunas and a great restaurant – a veritable paradise for health and fitness fans.

  • This small hotel is a little old-fashioned, and some rooms could do with refurbishing, but that’s more than made up for by its surplus of old Berlin charm, central location and low prices.

  • Berlin’s best guesthouse, close to Ku’damm, consists of several rooms in an old building, connected by endless corridors with lots of nooks and crannies. Some of the furniture has seen better days, but breakfast and atmosphere are perfect.

  • A charming hotel in a building dating back to the turn of the 20th century. The rooms are basic but well equipped (with safe, minibar and hairdryer). An ideal base for exploring Prenzlauer Berg.

  • The name of this small hotel with only 19 rooms may seem over the top, but this venue is ideally suited for young people and families. The rooms are basic but well cared for, and the service is efficient. The house is in a central spot, opposite Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche.

  • The furnishings in this medium-sized hotel-guesthouse are hopelessly stuck in the 1970s – and this is what makes it so charming. The service is very friendly, children and pets are both welcome, and the breakfast buffet is so generous that you won’t need to eat anything else for the rest of the day.

  • Slightly antiquated, venerable guesthouse close to Ku’damm, based in the apartment of the silent-film star Asta Nielsen. The rates are unbeatable, while furnishings and service are personal and friendly. There are only 15 rooms however, so it is advisable to book in advance.

  • This small hotel is full of modern works of art – even the showers are art installations. The rooms also have kitchens.
