The main shopping street is a broad pedestrianized avenue, fronted largely by high-street chain stores.

Wall-to-wall diamond and jewellery shops in the Jewish quarter. Fascinating, partly because there’s nothing romantic about it – the gems are commodities like any other.
3. Nieuwe Gaanderij Arcade

A good place to snoop for fashion at a slightly lower pitch than the designer boutiques.
4. Shopping Center Grand Bazar

An elegant modern arcade shares space with the Hilton hotel in the shell of a former department store.
5. Korte Gasthuisstraat and Lombardenvest

The heart of a pedestrianized area which contains attractive specialist shops of all kinds.
6. Schuttershofstraat

Another street of recherché boutiques and shoe shops, including a branch of the ultimate Belgian accessories manufacturer Delvaux. Smell that leather!
7. Het Modepaleis

This elegant belle époque “flat iron” building is the main outlet for one of Antwerp’s most fêted fashion designers, Dries van Noten.

What looks more like an art gallery than a clothes shop is the showcase for fashion designer Walter van Bierendonck, as well as other select labels.

A stone’s throw from the MUHKA modern art gallery, Demeulemeester’s shop displays the uncompromising edge that has placed her at the forefront of fashion.
