  • A dynamic space created using metal salvaged from Victor Horta’s celebrated Art Nouveau Volkshuis in Brussels, demolished in 1965.

  • A comfortable “pasta-bistro”, popular with locals and well-priced.

  • Or “Le Pain Quotidien” in French. Part of an esteemed chain providing wholesome sandwiches on crusty bread, plus pâtisserie and other snacks.

  • This brasserie-restaurant creates an intimate mood with medieval beams and live piano music.

  • Just off the Markt, this is one of the few genuine bars – as opposed to brasseries – in central Bruges and so popular with the locals.

  • An appealing estaminet (traditional pub) that stands by its 18th-century heritage to present a menu of fine Belgian-Bruxellois dishes, many of which are cooked in local beers.

  • A fun café-bar with low-lit tables and comfy chairs. Hosts occasional free concerts.

  • Kasbah

Sample succulent Moroccan dishes in a magical “Arabian Nights” setting beneath scores of coloured lanterns.

  • The building has been renovated in upbeat modern style, but the restaurant within still serves traditional Belgian dishes.

  • La Belga Queen

A stylish but essentially fun new restaurant in an ornate former bank. The French-Belgian menu is good value, particularly at lunchtime.
