  • Of the many hotels that line the Zand – a large open space in the west of the city – the Sofitel is probably the best. The rooms are comfortable, and there is also an indoor swimming pool.

  • The Sofitel chain certainly knows how to deliver stylish comfort. The Belfort has all the facilities of a hotel of this rank, including a fitness room and sauna, and is very centrally located, opposite the Stadhuis.

  • This elegant hotel, close to the Royal Palace, is decorated in a modern interpretation of British country-house style. Attractive weekend rates.

  • The area just north of the Augustijnenrei canal is a charming web of old streets. This well-run hotel occupies a 16th-century house overlooking the canal. The breakfast room is the brick-vaulted cellar.

  • This small hotel may seem a little out of the way in the north of the city, but the centre of Bruges is only a 15-minute walk away. The well-presented rooms are double-glazed and air-conditioned. The public rooms are stylish and welcoming.

  • Fetchingly perched beside the canal a little to the east of the Burg, Ter Reien is noted for the quality of its rooms, its service and, above all, its value for money.

  • A simple but satisfactory business hotel, the Vendôme is within easy walking distance of the Grand Place.

  • A Best Western hotel right in the centre of the city. Small and intimate (25 rooms), and simply furnished, it nonetheless meets the standards of comfort and reliability that the Best Western name commands.

  • A grand 19th-century mansion, beautifully restored to a state of cool and spacious elegance, the Walburg exudes style and refinement.

  • This hotel in an old patrician mansion has been elegantly kitted out in a style you might call ”Neo-Rococo”. All the suites, including a luxurious penthouse, are set around a courtyard garden. It lies just to the west of the cathedral, and close to the river.
