Run by celebrated restaurant designer Antoine Pinto, Pakhuis is big and very popular – so reserve!

The building has been renovated in upbeat modern style, but the restaurant within still serves traditional Belgian dishes.

After massive renovation, the 1730s Handelsbeurs concert hall has re-emerged as a major new venue, with a wonderfully spacious café.

This excellent brasserie is dramatically located on the first floor of the grand 19th-century Koninklijke Nederlandse Schouwburg (theatre), with a balcony overlooking Sint-Baafskathedraal. Also serves crêpes and waffles in the afternoon. Buffet brunch on Sunday.

Joyously eccentric pseudo-Edwardian restaurant overlooking the canal.

Old-established chip stand serving perfect chips (fries) and all the trimmings.
