Top 10 Antwerp Hotels
-
1. De Witte Lelie
One of the loveliest small hotels in Belgium – and, let’s face it, the world. Three 17th-century canal houses have been imaginatively transformed into a deeply attractive, modern hotel of 10 rooms, full of charming touches and surprising spaces. White and natural wood predominate. Relaxed, stylish, interesting.
-
2. Radisson SAS Park Lane
As you would expect from the name, a smart, well-run, modern hotel. It faces onto the Stadspark, about 1.5 km (1 mile) to the south-east of the cathedral. Fitness suite, swimming pool.
-
3. Hilton
Overlooking the Groenplaats, right in the middle of Antwerp, is the extraordinary dome-roofed palace built as the Grand Bazar du Bon Marché, a 1920s department store. Part of it has now been converted into a top-class, stylish and well-appointed Hilton hotel. Most of the rooms overlook a quiet inner courtyard.
-
4. Villa Mozart
A Best Western hotel right in the centre of the city. Small and intimate (25 rooms), and simply furnished, it nonetheless meets the standards of comfort and reliability that the Best Western name commands.
-
5. Alfa Theater
This modern hotel lies in a convenient location close to the Rubenshuis, and is a short walk from the cathedral via some of the best shopping streets.
-
6. Antigone
A tidy, modern and reasonably-priced hotel overlooking the river (and road), the Antigone is conveniently placed for the Grote Markt and cathedral, as well as some of the clubs, bars and restaurants just north of the city centre.
-
7. ’t Sandt
This hotel in an old patrician mansion has been elegantly kitted out in a style you might call ”Neo-Rococo”. All the suites, including a luxurious penthouse, are set around a courtyard garden. It lies just to the west of the cathedral, and close to the river.
-
8. Astrid Park Plaza
This is a large and well-run hotel, close to the Centraal Station, east of the city centre. It offers extensive conference facilities, and is well suited to the business traveller. It has a fitness suite and swimming pool.
-
9. Rubens Grote Markt
A friendly, well-presented and tranquil hotel. In its yard at the back is an unusual feature: a rare surviving example of the medieval lookout towers which used to dot the skyline of the city.
-
10. Scheldezicht
From its position overlooking a little square just to the south-west of the cathedral, this friendly, popular and well-priced hotel has views over the River Scheldt. It has old-world but unstuffy charm, with an oak-panelled breakfast room.
