  • Avenida Hidalgo, Isla Mujeres Town

Isla’s main street, and its main drag for leisurely browsing. Here and in parallel Av. Juárez small shops offer painted wooden birds, original T-shirts and local shell and coral jewelry.

  • Not a plush modern mall but a rambling jewelry and handicrafts bazaar, a few steps from the Forum. In among its many stalls you can find fine traditional craftwork, as well as a lot of junk.

  • Shopping highlights here are perfume and jewelry stores and fashion labels like Levi’s and Diesel. It also has a huge Hard Rock at its centre, a food court, and clubs alongside.

  • Ciudad Cancún’s souvenir/flea market has tightly packed stalls piled with handicrafts from attractive to tacky, surrounded by endless rows of T-shirts.

  • Another superior-quality handicrafts store. Traditional, often bizarre festival masks from all over Mexico are a speciality, as well as superb ceramics.

  • La Isla, Cancún

The latest and most stylish of the Hotel Zone’s malls, built as an artificial island surrounded by Venetian-style “canals”. It’s the place for major fashion names, like DKNY and Dolce e Gabbana.

  • The town market is the place for old-style shopping – giant stands of huarache sandals and panama hats, and tables full of fresh vegetables and fruit – plus a great food court (see Mercado 28 Restaurants, Cancún).

  • One of the biggest and most varied of the Cancún malls, with engaging toy shops, lots of beach-wear, fine jewelry stores and a huge choice of restaurants in an attractive, light-filled building.

  • Another giant mall with every kind of shopping, including an especially big choice of cigar, jewelry, souvenir and adults’ and kids’ fashion stores.

  • Fine quality Mexican textiles (telas ), in traditional or original designs, can be found here. A more original shop than most around Playa’s Quinta Avenida.
