  • This bar/restaurant located in a white-walled colonial house is the place for quality Italian food and potent cocktails. You can also relax in the large garden

  • A mixture of modern chic and Caribbean style – a mellow, coolly comfortable “jazz-bar-restaurant” beneath a giant palapa palm roof above the Quinta.

  • Ay Caray, Mérida

This place is a big, loud, and boisterous, very Mexican bar-dance hall, with all kinds of Mexican music, from modern pop to mariachi and rancheras, recorded and live.

  • Azúcar, Cancún

The best place in Cancún to dance to salsa, the Afro-Latin merengue and other rhythms played by fantastic live bands (see Live Attractions).

  • A rumbustious village bar with a salsa soundtrack. The men of El Cuyo go out to fish before dawn, and when they come back many spend much of the day by the beach at La Conchita, which serves up wonderful grilled fish.

  • Dance under the stars at this beachfront club split into two separate venues. DJs perform nightly.

  • Blue Parrot, Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen has changed enormously since its original beach bar opened in the early 1990s, but through it all the Parrot has remained the number-one place to meet up and mingle. There’s always a buzzing scene, and you get a fabulous view of the moon over the sea.

  • Blue Parrot, Playa del Carmen

The hub of Playa nightlife has been declared “one of the world’s best beach bars”. Stake out one of the rope-swing seats by the bar (see Nightspots).

  • Isla’s funkiest beach bar. With a palm roof to give shade, it’s right on the sand, just steps away from the sea, and offers Mexican snacks to go with the cocktails and chilled beers.

  • Deep shade and an ideal view over the beach make the bar in the Paamul cabañas and camping site (see Cabañas María del Mar, Isla Mujeres) a great place to get refreshed after time in the sun. Snacks are also available.
