  • Looking a bit like a giant Roman temple, Cancún’s Hard Rock is impossible to miss. The rock’n’roll bar formula is familiar worldwide, but this one is a real crowd-puller.

  • Cozumel’s Hard Rock offers no changes from the international formula but draws in the crowds with its loud, friendly atmosphere. Special pluses are good air-con and better live bands than most island bars.

  • The place to go for a more relaxed, much less hectic time – specialties at this bar are cocktails and Havana cigars, and the music is live, cool jazz.

  • Hotel María de la Luz, Valladolid

This hotel has a big, well-shaded terrace on the Parque Principal, with very comfortable seats – ideal for lazy lounging while keeping an eye on all the movement in the square.

  • An unusually modern, youth-oriented venue for old-fashioned Campeche, with colorful mock-tropical decor and light, tangy variations on Gulf Coast food, plus cocktails.

  • Jane’s Sports and Sorts, Puerto Aventuras

Big and comfortable bar with a convivial, boisterous feel where you can keep up with U.S. sports and party on into the night.

  • Fresh-juice stands are a wonderful local institution, and California wins the prize as the best in town. Watermelon, pineapples, papaya, and more are all waiting to be juiced.

  • Cancún’s most “European-style” club boasts several spaces for different moods, an innovative music range and a lagoon-side chill-out area.

  • Easily identifiable by the old British red phonebox by the door, this enormous club is known for the most adventurous music policy in Cancún, with several spaces where you can choose between rock, funk, indie, high-voltage techno, and many more unexpected and invigorating sounds. Other attractions include a restaurant and a wonderful open-air terrace where you can take a breather.

  • This little bar organizes parties a few nights a week right on the beach, sometimes with DJs. They start early, as the power goes off at midnight or before.
