  • Famous for its cocktails, this nightclub boasts an outdoor patio, sports bar, and live music.

  • Ever popular bar-restaurant with a huge outside terrace that’s one of the fixtures on the Quinta Avenida promenade. The style is hippy-Caribbean, helped along by chugging reggae and rock bands.

  • Piña Colada, Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras’ favorite beach bar, with a big palapa roof. Elaborate tropical cocktails are the specialty.

  • A dark, Boho-ish little bar with a Latin-jazz soundtrack. Roots offers the promise of “food, music, and art”. There’s a clutch of other intimate, buzzing bars on the same street, just off Avenida Tulum.

  • Señor Frog’s, Cancún

Beside Laguna Nichupté, this is one of the most popular Cancún outlets of the Anderson group (see Carlos‘n’Charlie’s, Cozumel). Party atmosphere, often with rock bands, guaranteed.

  • The smarter side of Mérida – this sleek modern space in the Hyatt hotel is an Italian restaurant early evening, but becomes a dance bar later.

  • All-American sports bar where you can keep up with all the scores, and bet on games and horses. It’s more of a real bar than some Riviera sports bars. Buckets of beer a specialty.

  • Like many Yucatán towns, Valladolid puts on entertainment for free – the town band gives a concert every Sunday night in the square, with a musical menu that runs from rumbas and boleros to classic jazz.

  • This huge, modern nightclub also contains a beach club, bar, restaurant, and lounge.

  • Very popular with locals, this bar-restaurant and dance floor also draws in visitors with its combination of a great, buzzy atmosphere, delicious Mexican snacks, and Latin sounds.
