  • Not a place to find souvenirs but a real, bustling country town market, with spectacular fruit and produce and household goods.

  • This charming shop away from Mérida’s crowded shopping streets is the outlet of a women’s embroidery cooperative. Blouses, mats, and other items are beautifully, individually made.

  • The town market is the place for old-style shopping – giant stands of huarache sandals and panama hats, and tables full of fresh vegetables and fruit – plus a great food court (see Mercado 28 Restaurants, Cancún).

  • One of the world’s greatest markets, a labyrinth of alleys and stalls selling everything imaginable – fish, fruit, a dazzling variety of chilies, rows of huípil dresses, sandals, and hats.

  • Mexicanísimo, Mérida

Innovative store that sells lightweight clothes for men and women in original, modern designs, using Mexican cottons and other traditional materials.

  • Tulum is not a shopping mecca, but this little store has a high-quality collection of colorful craftwork from every part of Mexico.

  • Miró company’s T-shirts stand out with their distinctive, stylish, bright and very Mexican designs, which justify the slightly higher prices. Their Cozumel store is next to Las Palmeras (see Las Palmeras, Cozumel).

  • One of the biggest and most varied of the Cancún malls, with engaging toy shops, lots of beach-wear, fine jewelry stores and a huge choice of restaurants in an attractive, light-filled building.

  • Another giant mall with every kind of shopping, including an especially big choice of cigar, jewelry, souvenir and adults’ and kids’ fashion stores.

  • First port of call for self-sufficient divers and sea-explorers on Cozumel, with every possible kind of diving and snorkeling equipment.
