  • Puerto Aventuras

A small, stylish group of shops. Among cigars and sophisticated jewelry, you’ll also find Mexican designer clothing at Arte Maya and fine handicrafts at El Guerrero.

  • Punta Langosta, Cozumel

The newest, most gleaming addition to Cozumel shopping, the leisure mall in the cruise terminal has major international fashion names – Versace, Tommy Hilfiger – plus upscale handicrafts and glittering gem stores.

  • A more cluttered Malecón jewelry store that’s also a bit less traditional in its styles and designs. Among its displays are beautiful pieces in Mexican jade, jet, and amber.

  • The boatmen’s cooperative here is a bit less organized but also has a waterfront hut, in San Felipe village. Rates are similar to those in Río Lagartos, but boatmen here will be more ready to take you to the Bocas de Dzilam and Río Lagartos lagoon.

  • More consistent quality and less brash than some handicrafts stores, with beautiful ceramics from all over Mexico and haunting folk art such as painted masks made to traditional designs.

  • Fine quality Mexican textiles (telas ), in traditional or original designs, can be found here. A more original shop than most around Playa’s Quinta Avenida.

  • A big, varied crafts dealer, with especially good ceramics and painted wood. There’s junk as well as quality pieces, but it’s a great place to browse.

  • Valladolid’s semi-official handi-crafts market has some very fine embroidery, as well as more production-line goods. The nearby bazaar is a quirky collection of shops around a food court (see Places to Eat).

  • Valladolid’s Main Plaza

Mayan women from the surrounding villages display their beautifully bright huípiles (traditional dresses) and other embroidery on the railings of the Parque Principal.

  • One of the longest-established and most prestigious of the jewelry companies on the Malecón, Cozumel’s seafront, known for classic designs with high-quality gems.
