    Long-running, American-owned restaurant with classic Italian food and tables around a pretty garden that’s a favorite with many regulars.

  • 2. La Veranda, Cozumel

    Also in a lovely tropical garden, around a Caribbean-style house with a big, shady verandah. The menu offers delicious, imaginatively prepared Caribbean seafood and other produce.

  • 3. Casa Denis, Cozumel

    One of the island’s oldest restaurants, in a wooden house just off the square. To eat, there are classic Yucatecan dishes (see Dishes of the Yucatán), at low prices.

  • 4. La Cocay, Cozumel

    This mellow, restaurant in a Caribean-style wooden hut offers a wide range of Mediterranean- inspired dishes, including pasta, light fish specialties, and excellent salads.

    The best restaurant on Cozumel’s east coast, and a wonderful place to eat on the beach.

    Run by a charming Mexican–Italian couple, this relaxing garden restaurant has a varied and international menu, with great light lunches.

  • 8. Gringo Dave’s, Tulum

    Despite the name, this fun beach-barbecue is Mexican-run. Its food is mainly Mexican too – specialties are good-value platters of flame-grilled fresh fish, seafood, or meats.

  • 9. Don Cafeto, Tulum

    One of Tulum’s longest-established restaurants, with a big outdoor terrace, and one of the best places for traditional Yucatecan and Mexican dishes.

  • 10. Paris de Noche, Tulum

    This bar-terrace offers an interesting mix of Mexican and French cooking, and the owners are very friendly.
