  • Camping Xàtiva

This attractive site, just outside historic Xàtiva (Játiva), has a fantastic pool, lots of shady pitches and a laundry, but little else. It’s an excellent base for mountain biking, hiking or sightseeing.

  • This enormous site, only a few minutes’ walk from the beach, is a virtual village. The facilities include two pools (one heated in winter), bars, a restaurant, satellite TV, supermarket, laundry and play areas. The site also rents out mobile homes.

  • This casa rural is a handsome town house close to the cathedral in historic Xàtiva. Two double rooms and a quadruple make it perfect for families or larger groups.

  • This luxurious country hideaway in the foothills of the Lleus Valley has just four rooms, with beamed ceilings. There’s a large terrace and pool. The romantic restaurant serves fine French cuisine.

  • This beautiful casa rural in the lovely medieval quarter of Bocairent has a well-equipped kitchen and dining room, plus bunk beds (sleeping six). Perfect for families.

  • Set in gardens and orchards just outside the beautiful town of Caravaca de la Cruz, these well-equipped houses and apartments are grouped around a pool and barbecue area. Stylishly decorated, they sleep between two and 12 people.

  • A large, ochre-painted complex set around a pool, with plush rooms. Facilities include tennis court, football pitch, gym and outdoor pool. The only drawback is that it’s about 1 km (half a mile) to the beach.

  • A charming Belgian couple run this appealing B&B in a whitewashed villa surrounded by palm trees. The swimming pool is huge. Each room has its own terrace, where a delicious breakfast is served.

  • Part of the Relais et Châteaux group, this charming hotel offers rooms, suites and villas set in jasmine-scented gardens. There are two pools, one indoor, one out; the outdoor pool overlooks the peak of Montgó.

  • Each of the rooms in this beguiling hotel is named after one of the deadly sins, and is decorated accordingly. Stroll through almond groves, hike through the mountains, or be sinfully slothful by the pool.
