Top 10 Beaches
-
1. Calblanque
The beaches of the Regional Park of Calblanque are the best in the whole of the Costa Blanca. Choose from sandy stretches, or discover your own private cove.
-
2. Calabardina
Tucked around a tiny bay with crystal-clear waters, pretty little Calabardina is a charming and barely developed resort, boasting several quiet beaches and rocky coves.
-
3. Fuente de Cope
Near the watchtower in the Natural Park of Calnegre y Cabo Cope (see Parque Natural de Calnegre y Cabo Cope), this is a wonderfully unspoilt stretch of coastline, with rocky outcrops and pools sheltered by the impressive cape.
-
4. Bolnuevo
Bolnuevo’s long, sandy beach is backed by surreal rock formations (see Ciudad Encantada de Bolnuevo, Bolnuevo), and has plenty of cafés and other facilities. To really get away from it all, head south down the coast, where there are dozens of secret coves.
-
5. Portús
Tucked in the lee of a rocky headland south of Cartagena, this narrow pebbly beach is well off the beaten track. There are little bays to be discovered, and it’s an authorized nudist beach.
-
6. Punta Negra
Escape the crowds in this tiny cove near the ghostly former mining town of Portman. The shingled beaches are dotted with upturned boats. Nearby, there’s excellent walking in the Regional Park of Calblanque.
-
7. Playa Honda
One of the most popular beaches on the Mar Menor, the Playa Honda is a wonderful 7-km (4-mile) stretch of sand around Mar de Cristal, with every imaginable facility.
-
8. Águilas
The elegant curve of Águilas’s bay is broken by strangely shaped volcanic islands, perfect for snorkelling. Long, fine sands and plenty of amenities have made it extremely popular with families.
-
9. Santiago de la Ribera
The main beach of this upmarket resort is backed by a wooden, palm-shaded boardwalk, and the long sandy expanse is lined with countless bars and cafés. It’s particularly good for families.
-
10. Cala del Pino
On the Mar Menor side of La Manga, this popular beach with fine sand looks out over the islets dotting the inland sea. All kinds of facilities (including a marina) are close at hand.
