  • Are these details incorrect?
  • 1. Nou Manolín

Upstairs is one of the best restaurants in Alicante (see Nou Manolín, Alicante). Downstairs, the exceptional range and quality of the tapas means it’s usually standing room only at the bar.

  • 2. La Taberna del Gourmet

This atmospheric tapas bar on a lively street is permanently packed. It serves a great array of fresh tapas, accompanied by an excellent wine list featuring lots of good local wines.

  • 3. Restaurante Ibéricos

The dangling hams signal this restaurant’s speciality. A whole section of the menu is dedicated to ham, but there are plenty of other dishes to choose from.

  • 4. Guillermo

This sweet, tile-lined little tapas bar is a neighbourhood favourite, serving tasty, traditional tapas and a refreshingly crisp local white wine.

  • 5. Rincón Gallego

Seafood is the speciality here, cooked to traditional Galician recipes. It’s a cosy spot, with a permanent knot of locals at the bar.

  • 6. Govana

Join the locals at the busy bar for great tapas, or sit down in the traditional dining room and dine on tasty regional rice dishes.

  • 7. Mesón del Labrador

Complete with colourfully tiled walls and a stack of wine barrels, this classic tapas bar in the heart of the old quarter serves an extensive menu of traditional tapas.

  • 8. Buen Comer

This long-established cafébar in the old quarter serves good tapas and raciones downstairs; upstairs, there’s a fancier restaurant, with delicious seafood and rice dishes.

  • 9. Mesón Rias Baixas

This family-run bar and restaurant is always packed to the rafters. The tapas are some of the best in town. Try the melt-in-the-mouth octopus cooked Galician-style.

  • 10. Taverna del Labradores

There’s almost no room in this miniature bar in the buzzy old quarter, but you can eat your tapas out on the terrace and watch the world go by.
