  • 1. Piripi, Alicante (Alacant)

    One of Alicante’s finest restaurants, this is probably the best place to try the local rice dishes. The tapas bar is one of the best in town.

  • 2. Nou Manolín, Alicante

    Excellent rice dishes (including a spectacular arroz a la banda ) are on offer at this welcoming restaurant, with an elegant whitewashed dining room upstairs and a fantastic tapas bar downstairs (see Nou Manolín).

    This relaxed, family restaurant with a huge terrace is a favourite with locals and tourists alike.

    Traditional restaurant with a pretty terrace overlooking the port. The menu offers plenty of local dishes, including caldero tabarquino (see Isla Tabarca).

    This big, airy seafood restaurant sits right on the port, so you know the fish is fresh. All kinds of shellfish are on the menu, along with tasty rice specialities.

    Traditional recipes are given a contemporary twist; try the sea bass with caramelized apple.

  • 10. Xiri, Monóvar

    Set in a fragrant, pine-shaded park, Xiri offers sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine, often with an unusual Oriental twist (as, for example, in the langoustine salad with sesame dressing). Finish up with one of their spectacular desserts.
