  • 1. Romanesque (c.1050–c.1200)

    Inspired by Roman architecture; characterized by rounded arches and tunnel vaults.

    Typical features: elaborate masonry and woodwork, pointed arches and exterior flying buttresses.

  • 3. Renaissance (c.1450–1600)

    Renaissance architects took inspiration from monuments of Greco-Roman civilization.

  • 4. Baroque (c.1600–1750)

    Spanish Baroque features undulating façades with high relief and ornate decoration.

  • 5. Modernista (c.1880–c.1920)

    An altarpiece, usually featuring a series of painted panels, decorates the main altar in most Spanish churches.
