1. Blue Flags
Blue Flags are awarded to beaches which have achieved a high standard of cleanliness and offer good facilities.

2. Warning Flags
Don’t swim if a red flag is flying, and be cautious if you see a yellow flag. A green flag means it is safe to swim.

3. Facilities
Town beaches generally offer excellent facilities, including play areas, showers and refreshments.

4. Jellyfish
Jellyfish can be a nuisance. If you get stung, larger beaches will have a medical post.

5. Lifeguards
Most beaches, even more remote ones, will have a lifeguard post in summer.

6. Sunscreen
Don’t forget your sunscreen! The sun is very fierce on the Costa Blanca. You should avoid sunbathing between noon and 4pm.

Ensure you bring an adequate water supply, particularly when staying on remote beaches.

Many beaches have snack bars, or xiringuitos , which open only in the summer.

9. Beating the crowds
The Costa Blanca is highly developed, and city beaches are always crammed, but you can always find a quiet corner.

Many beaches, particularly those in the cities, have special ramps for wheelchair access. The tourist office will have details.
