  • 1. Blue Flags

Blue Flags are awarded to beaches which have achieved a high standard of cleanliness and offer good facilities.

  • 2. Warning Flags

Don’t swim if a red flag is flying, and be cautious if you see a yellow flag. A green flag means it is safe to swim.

  • 3. Facilities

Town beaches generally offer excellent facilities, including play areas, showers and refreshments.

  • 4. Jellyfish

Jellyfish can be a nuisance. If you get stung, larger beaches will have a medical post.

  • 5. Lifeguards

Most beaches, even more remote ones, will have a lifeguard post in summer.

  • 6. Sunscreen

Don’t forget your sunscreen! The sun is very fierce on the Costa Blanca. You should avoid sunbathing between noon and 4pm.

  • 7. Water

Ensure you bring an adequate water supply, particularly when staying on remote beaches.

  • 8. Beach bars

Many beaches have snack bars, or xiringuitos , which open only in the summer.

  • 9. Beating the crowds

The Costa Blanca is highly developed, and city beaches are always crammed, but you can always find a quiet corner.

  • 10. Wheelchair Access

Many beaches, particularly those in the cities, have special ramps for wheelchair access. The tourist office will have details.
