  • Are these details incorrect?
  • 1. Hotel Bali, Benidorm

A giant even by the standards of Benidorm’s dizzying skyscrapers, the four-star Hotel Bali, at 186 m (610 ft), is the tallest hotel in Europe. It’s worth choosing your room carefully, as not all of them have a balcony or terrace.

  • 2. Palm Beach, Benidorm

For Benidorm at its most flamboyant, try this enormous hotel packed with enjoyably kitsch details. All the usual facilities, plus a special children’s play area.

  • 3. NH Hotel Cristal, Alicante (Alacant)

A sleek chain hotel with a striking glass façade and lobby, in the heart of Alicante yet still handy for the beaches. It’s geared toward business travellers, so look out for good deals at weekends and out of season.

  • 4. Roca Esmeralda, (Calp) Calpe

This newcomer sits right on the Levante beach, and offers bright, modern rooms. Choose from no fewer than four pools (one indoors and three out, including one for kids). Watersports arranged on request.

  • 5. Melia Altea Hills, Altea

This striking modern complex set on the edge of the pretty village of Altea, has five-star amenities – notably, enormous bathrooms and spectacular sea views. The hotel is surrounded by tropical gardens and boasts an outdoor pool, sports centre and spa.

  • 6. Don Ximo Club Hotel, Gandía-Playa

A large, ochre-painted complex set around a pool, with plush rooms. Facilities include tennis court, football pitch, gym and outdoor pool. The only drawback is that it’s about 1 km (half a mile) to the beach.

  • 7. Barceló Lodomar, Lo Pagán

A vast complex of rooms and apartments, with pools, gym and a spa specializing in thalasso-therapy. The hotel sits on the edge of the San Pedro del Pinatar egional Park, a paradise for bird-watchers. The Mar Menor beaches are about 500 m (547 yards) away.

  • 8. La Sella Golf Resort and Spa

Overlooking the prestigious La Sella golf course in the foothills of the Montgó Natural Park, this is one of the most luxurious resorts in the whole region. The spa is one of the finest in Spain.

  • 9. Oliva Nova Golf, Oliva

A handsome seafront complex, the Oliva Nova is set around an 18-hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros. Most rooms and suites have sea views. Some even have private pools.

  • 10. Los Limineros, Moraira

This pretty, medium-sized hotel has villa-style rooms, a swimming pool, and a decent restaurant. The attentive staff can arrange excursions to nearby attractions. It’s a 10-minute walk to the beach and the centre of Moraira.
