  • For an exotic experience – belly dancers, hookah pipes and all – visit this fine Lebanese restaurant. The menu is authentically Middle Eastern and you can sample an after-dinner nargileh (hubble-bubble pipe) packed with apple-flavoured tobacco.

  • To see and be seen, look no further than Da Capo, where the clientele dress mainly in black and where sunglasses are mandatory day and night. Good coffee and pastries.

  • Intimate dining Italian-style is the keynote here. Delicious antipasti and pasta dishes, and good desserts. Reservations advisable.

  • Cheap and plentiful meze and kebabs are the mainstays of this eating-place, in a vault within the ramparts – a good place to escape the midday sun.

  • Express Café, Agia Napa

The largest and best of an array of cafés on Agia Napa’s main drag, Express is a popular, family-friendly place. It serves an extensive menu of snacks, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.

  • A British expat’s home from home, with a nostalgic 1970s-style menu of prawn cocktail, chicken Kiev and Black Forest Gâteau.

  • You’ll find eight bars for the price of one in this drinker’s paradise so bring a man-sized thirst with you. There is something for everyone here, from the Down-under Sports Bar with big-screen sporting action to the Red Lion Pub serving English beers on tap.

  • Style-conscious Graffiti attracts few foreign visitors, perhaps because it’s in the town centre not in the tourist area. Relaxed background music, a good choice of drinks, and hookah pipes for those who like their tobacco Middle Eastern-style.

  • One of a chain of Internet cafés, Intencity is also noisy with the sound of gaming machines.

  • The Greek Cypriot food at Irinias is a long-standing favourite – make a reservation (or go early in the evening) to be sure of getting a table.
