  • This Internet café on the waterfront also serves drinks.

  • The Roadhouse does its best to recreate an English pub, with roast dinners on Sundays, a garden bar and live music most week nights.

  • Roman Restaurant, Pafos

Colourfully kitsch, the Roman Hotel’s poolside restaurant is decorated in an imitation of a Hellenistic villa, complete with arches, columns and painted friezes. The pool is open to visitors as well as residents.

  • In the heart of Kyrenia’s beach resort area, Sez-i is rated one of the best fish restaurants in Northern Cyprus – which is praise indeed.

  • Just the place to cool off after a drive around the Troodos, the Skylight restaurant has its own swimming pool – free to diners, with a minimal charge for those just dropping in for a cold drink. The menu features fresh mountain trout, an array of dishes from the charcoal grill, and some decent local wines.

  • The seafood meze here is made with the freshest of ingredients and beautifully presented. A good choice of Cypriot wines too.

  • This massive Irish pub on four floors has sports screenings on satellite TV, snooker, darts, nightly karaoke, and, of course, Guinness and other Irish beers on tap.

  • Try your hand at back-gammon, Cyprus’s favourite board game, in this cheery café, while enjoying what the owner claims is the best cappuccino in Larnaka.

  • Irish coffee, Irish whisky and, of course, Guinness. For confirmed tea drinkers, the Blarney Stone also makes an excellent pot. A daytime spot rather than a night-owl’s hangout.

  • An amiable British-influenced spot with a pubby atmosphere, the Grapevine is one of Kyrenia’s social hubs and has a more imaginative menu than most local restaurants.
