  • With its huge pool, this is the epitome of family-friendly luxury, on Agia Napa’s favourite beach. There is a mini-club for children.

  • The largest and most up-market “tourist village” style accommodation in the Agia Napa region has indoor and outdoor pools, watersports, a gym, and is right on the beach.

  • Choose from standard rooms or luxury suites at this superb resort overlooking Pafos harbour. Activities range from tennis, volleyball and watersports, and eating places include a gourmet restaurant.

  • Rated not just the best hotel in Cyprus but, according to some, the best in the Mediterranean, the Anassa oozes style. No expense has been spared in the decorating of this lavish property, set in landscaped grounds, above one of the finest beaches on the island and with views out to sea. The rooms are comfortable, and the staff attentive.

  • In the centre of Tochni is this 19th-century stone house which has been lovingly restored. Two bedrooms, a balcony, and a courtyard filled with lemon trees and pomegranates.

  • Close to the spectacular ruin of Bellapais Abbey (see Bellapais Abbey), this atmospheric small hotel really rates higher than its 3-star classification. It has pretty gardens shaded by cypresses and palm trees, a good pool, and a well-deserved reputation for excellent Turkish Cypriot cooking. High above sea level, it also offers a cool refuge from the north coast’s blazing heat.

  • Overlooking the sandy beach north of Famagusta, this medium-size hotel is comfortable and well-appointed despite its rather undistinguished 1970s-style architecture. Facilities include tennis courts, a gym, Turkish bath, pool, restaurant and terrace bar, as well as a casino and nightclub.

  • A choice of two villas, each sleeping six people and each with a pool, between unpretentious Polis and hideaway Neo Chorio. The beaches of Chrysochou Bay, the harbour tavernas of Lakki and the forested wilderness of the Akamas peninsula are not far away.

  • The Callisto has a huge assortment of activities on offer, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gym, tennis courts, and all the watersports you could wish for.

  • Regarded as one of the very best hotels in the North until the opening of The Colony in 2003. With its location on the beach, the Lambousa is still a fine hotel which has more than earned its reputation.
