Top 10 Popular Beaches
-
1. Chryssochou Bay, Polis
A beautiful strip of clean pebbles and coarse sand, with clear water and great coastal views. In a forest of eucalyptus trees immediately behind the beach there’s a pleasant camp site and a beach bar and restaurant.
-
2. Coral Bay
This sandy crescent draws the crowds, especially on summer weekends when it is a magnet for young Cypriots. Turn up early to be sure of finding an empty sun-lounger or a patch of unoccupied sand.
-
3. Pafos
Pafos municipality has transformed an unpromising stretch of shore opposite the harbour by planting lawns and palm trees, importing extra sand, providing sun-loungers, installing a beach bar, and offering an assortment of watersports.
-
4. Geroskipou
This long beach on the outskirts of Pafos is little used by holidaymakers but is a favourite with locals. It is clean and well tended, and the self-service snack bar has showers, toilets and changing rooms.
-
5. Pissouri Bay
Clear blue water, clean sand and pebbles, sun-loungers and umbrellas to rent, and a good choice of watersports.
-
6. Evdimou
One of the least crowded and least visited beaches on the south coast. With around 2 km (1.5 miles) of sand and pebbles, it is great for beachcombers looking for solitude. A bar-restaurant midway along serves meals and cold drinks.
-
7. Lady’s Mile
Purportedly named after a colonial cavalry officer’s favourite mare, this long stretch of gently shelving sand only a short drive from Limassol is surprisingly undeveloped, with just one small restaurant-bar which also rents out sun-loungers.
-
8. Dasoudi
The nearest stretch of clean sand and water to central Limassol and justifiably popular with local urbanites as well as holidaymakers.
-
9. Agios Georgios Alamanou
A natural amphitheatre of white limestone cliffs conceals this rugged stretch of shoreline from the south coast highway. The pebbles make it better suited for a quick dip before lunch than a full day’s sunbathing.
-
10. Governor’s Beach
Dazzlingly white chalk cliffs provide a sharp contrast to the dark sands of this chain of little bays and coves, each with a choice of snack bars and tavernas .
