  • 1. Aliada, Limassol

The attractive garden, behind this elegant Limassol mansion, is a delightful place to dine on a summer evening, and there are also four dining rooms inside, much favoured by locals in the know. The food is some of the best in the region, especially the charcoal-grilled dishes.

  • 2. Neon Phaliron, Limassol

Something of a local legend for its combination of traditional recipes with an up-to-date twist. Game features heavily in season, and the seafood is well worth trying too.

  • 3. Pasalimani, Limassol

Pasalimani, with sea views, maintains its long established reputation as one of Limassol’s best fish restaurants.

  • 4. Xydas, Limassol

Make reservations well in advance if you want a table at Limassol’s best fish taverna.

  • 5. Neromilos, Pera Pedi

A delightful village tavern, beside a chuckling stream that formerly drove the watermill. All the Cypriot favourites, prepared on the charcoal grill or in a traditional clay oven.

  • 6. Plaka, Pafos

Don’t be fooled by Plaka’s unexciting appearance – it is one of the best tavernas in Pafos. Try the lavish, multi-course seafood meze .

  • 7. Porto Latchi, Lakki

Near the tiny fishing harbour at Lakki, this traditional fish tavern with outdoor tables has good seafood every day, as well as meze and charcoal-grilled meat dishes.

  • 8. Akamas Fish Tavern, Agios Georgios

Perched above a tiny fishing harbour, this delightful restaurant serves fish, naturally, as well as excellent meze and kebabs.

  • 9. Kasparis, Chlorakas

A little out of town – you’ll need a car or a taxi – Kasparis is more popular with locals than visitors, which is always a good sign. Friendly and unassuming.

  • 10. Araouzos, Kathikas

In the heart of the wine-making country between Pafos and the north coast, Araouzos is a gem of a restaurant that amply repays the minor trouble of getting here. The menu consists of stews, game dishes and roasts.
