  • 1. Dome Hotel, Kyrenia

    During the British colonial era the Dome was the poshest hotel in Kyrenia and the summer and weekend haunt of wealthy British expats. Although it has now been eclipsed by lavish new competitors, it has a nostalgic style and, with its location close to Kyrenia’s pretty harbour, is a handy base for exploring the region.

  • 2. Liman Hotel Casino, Kyrenia

    Overlooking the harbour, the Liman is a quietly stylish hotel that appears to make most of its profits from its small casino. Bow-tied doormen stand on duty day and night. The hotel’s outdoor restaurant across the street is a very pleasant place enjoy breakfast.

  • 3. Mare Monte Hotel, Kyrenia

    The Mare Monte is a medium-sized hotel at Kyrenia’s beachside suburb of Alsancak, with wooded grounds and striking views of the Mediterranean and the dramatic Kyrenia range. It has a small pool.

  • 4. King’s Court Hotel, Kyrenia

    This village-style resort hotel, set among lemon and orange groves about 8 km (5 miles) west of Kyrenia harbour, is remarkable value for money, with a large pool, bar and restaurant, all minutes from a sandy beach.

  • 5. Pitoresk Holiday Village, Kyrenia

    A bungalow resort spread out around a garden filled with singing birds. Accommodation is in self-catering duplexes or studio apartments and there’s a large pool.

  • 6. Hotel Sempati, Kyrenia

    All the rooms in this comfortable 3-star hotel have sea views and balconies, and there is a choice of accommodation in the main wing or in self-catering bungalows around the pool.

  • 7. Bellapais Gardens, Bellapais

    Close to the spectacular ruin of Bellapais Abbey (see Bellapais Abbey), this atmospheric small hotel really rates higher than its 3-star classification. It has pretty gardens shaded by cypresses and palm trees, a good pool, and a well-deserved reputation for excellent Turkish Cypriot cooking. High above sea level, it also offers a cool refuge from the north coast’s blazing heat.

  • 8. Portofino Hotel, Famagusta

    Rooms are large here, and all have balconies. There is a pleasant rooftop pool and café-restaurant with views of the medieval town.

  • 9. Lefke Gardens Hotel, Lefke

    Rooms in this hotel are plain but comfortable, and there is a garden.

  • 10. Royal Hotel Nicosia

    The best value place to stay in town. Rooms have air conditioning and a minibar and there is an an indoor pool, a Turkish bath and casino.
