  • This Spanish restaurant and bar offers meals or tapas, and there is a casino for adult amusement. The real action begins at around 1am when Dominicans, dressed smartly but provocatively, arrive for a good time.

  • Formerly a wine shop, the Alta Copa has been transformed into a wine bar decorated as a Spanish cava. Cocktails as well as wine are served at this sought-after meeting place for the Dominicans.

  • The leading gay club in Santo Domingo, Arena (formerlyknown as Aire) hosts popular theme nights, and lots of parties, and plays music from the 1970s and 80s (see Arena, Santo Domingo).

  • One of the capital’s best gay clubs. Wednesday is the Foam Party, Saturday the Message Party, and on Sunday there’s a drag and stripper show. DJs play house and dance music until dawn.

  • Located by Alcázar de Colón, Atarazana 9 is acafé and bar offering live musicand a relaxed atmosphere (see Atarazana 9, Santo Domingo).

  • Time your sightseeing in the old city so that you can have an evening drink here. It’s one of the many historic buildings around the Alcázar de Colón that have been converted into a bar or restaurant. The bar serves good drinks.

  • A beach bar and a disco, Bambú gets extremely lively after midnight.

  • A café-style restaurant and bar on the seafront road, it serves excellent shrimp along with drinks, in the open as well as indoors. Open late, until the last customer leaves.

  • Five Barceló hotels share the facilities of a 24-hour casino, a theater featuring Las Vegas-style Tropicalísimo casino shows, and a disco which plays a variety of music.

  • Primarily a restaurant, Barrio Latino is also a swinging bar that stays open until midnight.
