Walk through José Oshay’s shopping village, off the main road, to reach this beachfront bar. Food is available, but it’s basically a drinking spot, packed at night with windsurfers burning candles at both ends after a busy day on the waves.

An international superstar, the classically trained musician blends jazz-influenced merengue and sentimental bachata music.
Juices

An infinite variety of tropical fruits (see Top 10 Fruits) are turned into irresistible juices, with or without extra sugar.
Jungle Bar, Puerto Plata

This English-run bar is a favorite with the British crowd. You can get a chip butty (sandwich) or a fried breakfast, and all the usual drinks. There are often event nights, when the bar stays open till late.
Kukara Macara

At the foot of the Monumento a los Héroes, this rustic restaurant is decorated in gaucho style. Its fare concentrates on good quality meat, including Angus steaks, as well as tacos, sandwiches, and burgers.
La Herradura

Good, hearty food from sandwiches to pasta, fish and meat is served in a ranch-style restaurant with rustic decor. Live music at weekends.
La Yuca Caliente

A Spanish restaurant on the beach under the shade of palm trees. A wonderful setting to enjoy the tapas bar or sample the extensive wine list.
Las Brisas

One of the most sought after night spots, Brisas hosts beach volley ball tournaments on Thursday nights (see Las Brisas, Cabarete).
Las Brisas, Cabarete

At the east end of the town, on the beach, this lively nightspot offers a reasonably priced Tex Mex buffet. Las Brisas is the only place in Cabarete that plays Dominican music at night – merengue and bachata.
