  • A friendly, family-run hotel, set above a music store in the heart of the shopping area of the old city. The rooms are basic but clean and adequate. Those with a balcony have a fan but some rooms have no windows though they have air conditioning. Book in advance as it’s usually full.

  • Rooms and suites are well appointed with air conditioning, TV, good service, and the benefit of a restaurant on site. Breakfast included in the rates.

  • Accommodation ranges from camping to spacious self-catering villas, all spread along the hillside. The restaurant serves local meat, fruits, and vegetables. Horseback riding or quad-bike excursions can be arranged.

  • A 50-room hotel offering studios and apartments, all equipped with kitchenettes. Excellent for families as it has a playground, ice-cream parlour, and baby-sitting facilities. Also caters to kiteboarders, with a kite school and a free lesson included in the rates.

  • The rooms and suites offer the latest communications technology and are designed for business travelers as well as vacationers. There is a restaurant, a mini bar, and cocktail lounge.

  • Atlantis, Las Terrenas

This hotel is known for its French food. The rooms are large and comfortable with marble bathrooms, and some have air conditioning.

  • This is a wonderful place to admire the changing turquoise hues of the sea, so clear you can see the coral. The rooms are simple and clean with basic amenities. Meal plans are available.

  • A group of villas and apartments set on the outskirts of Cabarete, within in walking distance of shops and restaurants. There is a central communal area with a pool, a Jacuzzi, a tennis court, and a small shop for essential supplies, as well as a Swiss restaurant.

  • An all-inclusive resort comprising five hotels, offering a golf course, a 24-hour casino, Internet café, shops, and a convention center. A small tram shuttles guests around the property.

  • This attractive modern complex of condos offers parking and 24-hour security. Each condo has two bedrooms and bathrooms, and is comfortably furnished with tiled floors, air conditioning, and fans. Monthly rates are a particularly good deal.
