  • 1. The Rooftop

It’s easy to fall in love with the magical look and feel of this atmospheric Moroccan-style rooftop bar with its Arabesque lanterns and Oriental lounge music (see The Rooftop ).

  • 2. Bahri Bar

You’ll be impressed with the enchanting old-Arabian architecture and sumptuous interiors of Mina A’Salam hotel and its colonial-styled bar with verandas covered in Persian carpets. It also offers a mesmerizing view of the Burj Al Arab (see Bahri Bar ).

  • 3. Sho Cho’s

There is no more sublime spot for a drink than on Sho Cho’s wooden deck by the beach. Low-key early in the evening when people head here for the sushi, Dubai’s style-setters pack the place late for excellent DJs (see Sho Cho’s ).

  • 4. The Agency

These stylish wine bars attract a sophisticated set who are serious about their wine. The Jumeirah Emirates Towers branch is just right for a quick drink and tasty “wine teasers” (tapas-style snacks); Madinat Jumeirah is perfect for a relaxed night out (see The Agency ).

  • 5. Buddha Bar

You’ll want to linger at this atmospheric bar, which attracts a fashionable crowd of regulars who flock here for the Oriental decor, Asian tapas and exotic cocktails. This one is better than its more touristy Paris parent. Expect to see some dancing on the tables (see Buddha Bar ).

  • 6. 1897

This stylish cocktail bar is named after the year Kempinski Hotels were founded. Sink into a purple velvet sofa and enjoy some of the best cocktails in Dubai, along with smooth jazz sounds.

  • 7. Lotus One

This is the city’s most beautifully lit bar, with fibre-optic lighting, filmy curtains, swinging seats and sand under the glass floor. It attracts big name DJs, such as Pierre Raven. After working up an appetite on the dance floor, try the tasty Asian-inspired tapas. The regulars are as beautiful as the bar (see Lotus One ).

  • 8. The Terrace

Reclining on one of the low sofas listening to the water lapping at the boats on Dubai Creek is about as relaxing as it can get. Add some oysters, champagne and caviar (the house specialities) to the equation and you’re bound to have a sublime experience. Vodka lovers will be pleased – the Terrace prides itself on its extensive vodka menu.

  • 9. Bar 44

Prop yourself up at the swanky circular bar or sink into a plush chair at this swish cocktail bar on level 44 (hence the name) of the Grosvenor House hotel with spectacular views over Dubai Marina. It attracts a regular sophisticated local set as well as visiting business people out to impress colleagues (see Bar 44 ).

  • 10. Tamanya Terrace

This alfresco terrace on top of one of Dubai’s chicest hotels has spectacular views over Dubai Media City and the towers of Dubai Marina. Head here at sunset for a sheesha and cocktail or come late for a dance when nights such as “Favela Chic” attract a lively Latino crowd.
