Dublin

One of the most popular capitals in Europe, Dublin is a city steeped in history. Huddled together within a small vicinity you’ll find Viking remains, medieval cathedrals and churches, Georgian squares and excellent museums. But it’s not just about buildings – music, theatre, literature and pubs play just as strong a part in Dublin’s atmosphere. These highlights are the must-sees for any visitor who wants to truly capture the variety and vibrancy of the city.

  • Dublin Zoo

Apart from the usual exotic animals there is a pet-care section, play area, and a train ride (see Phoenix Park).

  • Dublinia

Medieval Dublin is brought to life, through exhibits such as a full-size reconstruction of a merchant’s house.

  • Entered via Christ Church Cathedral, this exhibition uses audio-visuals to recreate medieval Dublin.

  • Owner Kevin Dundon is regarded as one of Ireland’s finest cooks, and the restaurant of this fine country house hotel is elegant, with outstanding food and an excellent wine list.

  • A working fishing harbour with brightly coloured boats, and cottages set among woods, this attractive village makes a favourite outing for a drink, lunch or a waterfront stroll. Many of the cottages are available for holiday lets. Nearby sandy coves include the popular Lady’s Cove beach, and there are several enjoyable marked walks and hikes.

  • Selling more than 100 Italian wines, fine olive oil and artisan products.

  • This mellow village inn, in the shadow of Bunratty Castle, has been in business since 1620, and still serves a range of substantial Irish dishes, oysters and seafood.
