  • 1. Boluisce

This family-run restaurant has earned itself a high reputation for Connemara lamb, Irish beef, and delicious fish from the nearby Atlantic.

  • 2. Cre na Cille

Seafood, meat and game are the specialities of this excellent but unassuming family-run restaurant. It also has a large array of fine whiskeys.

  • 3. Paddy Burke’s

The best time to visit this traditional pub is during Clarin-bridge’s September oyster festival. As well as shellfish from the famed local beds, it offers a choice of good meat and fish dishes.

  • 4. Currarevagh House

This restaurant is part of a country manor on the shores of Lough Corrib (famous for brown trout, which is on the menu in season).

  • 5. Nimmos

The Mediterranean cooking and live folk music on Wednesday and Saturday make this a popular place with locals. The walls are covered with objets d’art by the artist owner.

  • 6. Cashel House

This country house and restaurant was once a gracious aristocratic home and has now earned itself international renown for both its food and atmosphere.

  • 7. O’Dowd’s Seafood Bar and Restaurant

Beside Roundstone’s pretty harbour, O’Dowd’s serves steak and seafood dishes and does more for vegetarians than most Irish restaurants.

  • 8. Aran Fisherman

This harbourside restaurant is certainly the best on the Aran Islands (where there is, admittedly, limited competition). Its seafood, caught the same day, must be the freshest in Ireland.

  • 9. White Gables

In an informal whitewashed 19th-century inn, White Gables is best known for its lobster, but also serves other “surf and turf” dishes.

  • 10. McDonagh’s Fish Restaurant

As you might expect, specializing mainly in seafood. Excellent seafood platter and friendly service.
