  • O’Neills

The exterior of this pub is authentic and old-fashioned, while inside there are several different bar areas offering a variety of experiences and clientele.

  • A great institution, this old grocery store doubles up as a bar and is a fun place to drink. Oysters are a speciality when available.

  • A traditional old lrish pub with wooden and stone floors, good bar food and live traditional Irish music seven nights a week.

  • During the day, this bar is the smart, yet fashionable Globe, serving soups and sandwiches. Things change at 11pm. Rí-Rá opens as a thronging nightclub with a mixed gay/straight crowd.

  • This beautifully preserved pub has self-contained snugs – originally for “the ladies” – on each side of the counter. The decor is Victorian in every detail, from the mahogany partitions and sepia photographs to the brass match lighters fixed to the counter. Upstairs is a cosy restaurant which has won several awards.

  • Chic and very laid-back looking bar with rattan chairs and natural fabrics. Plenty of space between tables too – rare in Dublin.

  • This venue attracts the best alternative rock bands and homegrown talent to its stage. Cutting-edge DJs fill the floors during the regular club nights and, once a week, the Centre hosts a salsa night (beginners welcome).

  • A watering hole and safe-house for Irish rebels such as Michael Collins, as well as literary figures such as Brendan Behan, the original building was demolished in the 1960s to make way for today’s bright, airy bar. Dress is informal but stylish.

  • This is the highest point of the Guinness Storehouse and has stupendous views across the city. Enjoy your free pint – if you’ve been to the exhibition – and try to spot the various city landmarks from the panoramic windows (see Guinness Storehouse).

  • The International Bar

Popular with writers and musicians. The evenings of live music are exceptionally good and well-attended.
