Las Vegas

The Entertainment Capital of the World offers just about everything: the world’s largest hotels; the brightest stars in show business; shops and restaurants that rival any on earth. It’s true, too, that the lights are brighter in Las Vegas. Yet you don’t have to go far from the glamour and glitter to find the natural beauty of lakes and the desert as well.

  • MGM Grand Spa

Pamper yourself with a “Down Under” package, which offers a foot soak, massage, and mud therapy treatment set to Aboriginal music. You can purchase day passes for the workout room, sauna, and jacuzzi. If you buy four day passes, the fifth day is free.

  • Games galore, plus an array of fun mirrors, hotdog stands, popcorn machines, and other carnival delights.

  • Conveniently located in the center of the Strip, the Mirage is famous for its tropical atrium, pretty pool with cascading waterfall, and Siegried & Roy’s white tigers (see Mamma Mia! & White Tiger Habitat).

  • Mirage Spa and Salon

Feel your stresses and strains ebb away amid lush foliage and hanging vines. Furnishings in peach, rose, and turquoise shades add to the air of tranquility. The sky-lit Grand Court allows access to separate men’s and women’s spa facilities, an exercise room, and beauty salon.

  • This is Las Vegas at its lavish best: after dark, every 15 minutes, the “volcano” at the Mirage blows its top (see The Mirage Volcano).

  • Take a table at the sidewalk café, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy the view of Bellagio’s fountain show.

  • Monte Carlo

The building reflects its European namesake, but the casino is typically Las Vegas, with the usual machines and table games. Monte Carlo’s slot club is, however, superior to most; the air seems fresher than in most casinos, too.

  • An elegant European theme is reflected in the large rooms, each with a marble bathroom.

  • This arcade seems less hectic than most – a boon to anxious parents watching over their charges.

  • These shy creatures roam the Grand Canyon, Zion, and the mountains around Death Valley, helping to control the small mammal populations.
