Las Vegas

The Entertainment Capital of the World offers just about everything: the world’s largest hotels; the brightest stars in show business; shops and restaurants that rival any on earth. It’s true, too, that the lights are brighter in Las Vegas. Yet you don’t have to go far from the glamour and glitter to find the natural beauty of lakes and the desert as well.

  • The Big Theme Hotels

The five largest and most extravagant hotels are Bellagio, The Venetian, Aladdin, Mandalay Bay, and Paris (see Paris Las Vegas). Smaller than these, but still extraordinary in their dedication to a theme, are Caesars Palace, New York–New York, Treasure Island, and Excalibur.

  • The Border Grill is the brain child of chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Food Network’s “Too Hot Tamales”. This is a fantastic bistro, with amazing pork tacos, and Sangria to die for. Located at the Mandalay Bay on the strip, this restaurant is a must see for those that love Mexican cuisine. You can choose to dine in the restaurant or on the the upstairs porch. If it is chilly outside there is no need to fear because "The Border Grill" has heaters right next to your table to keep you and your food warm...

  • The Buffet offers a choice of braised sirloin with port sauce, herbs, and garlic, prime rib ham, roast chicken, soups, or salads.

  • The Cheesecake Factory serves much more than just cheesecake!

Walk through the front doors and you know you're in for something special! It's a great place to grab a byte or just relax and watch the world go by.

There offering more than 200 menu selections including Appetizers, Pizza, Pasta, Seafood, Steaks, Salads, Sandwiches, and more. My favourite was the Factory Burger.

But make sure you save room for dessert! Try one of the 50 delicious cheesecakes....

    Have fun

  • Listen in on conversations between the robotic statues of Bacchus, Venus, Pluto, and Apollo at the Festival Fountain, and watch a mini-drama performed by another group of statues – Neptune and his feuding children – at the Atlantis Monument between the Cheese-cake Factory and Race for Atlantis. The show also features huge winged beasts and a dazzling, hi-tech wrath-of-the-gods firestorm. Some of the shops, too, provide entertainment: pop into Magic Masters and look out for a secret door leading to the replica of Harry Houdini’s library.

  • The Forum Shops at Caesars

The glory that was Rome provides the backdrop for the city’s best upscale shops and restaurants.

  • The Forum Shops are laid out along pseudo-Roman streets within the Caesars Palace complex, characterized by two-story storefronts topped with statues of Roman senators. Along with wares from Europe, American design is featured at s tores like Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, and the Disney Store. Ask for a map of the shops at the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (see Sources of Information) before you put on your shopping shoes.

  • The newest of the city’s residential malls, Galleria offers department store shopping and down-to-earth services, such as shoe and jewelry repair, free jewelry cleaning, alterations and tailoring, hairstyling, film developing, gift wrapping, and postage stamps.

  • we went to the west rim of the canyon by coach, which we had boarded at las vegas, and it was an amazing journey. We passed joshua trees and spotted the odd coyote. We also saw lake mead and the hoover dam. on the latter part of the journey, we travelled a while on a bumpy dirt road! On arrival we boarded a helicopter which took us to the base of the canyon. wow! as we flew over the edge of the canyon, it felt as though we were jumping off a cliff!

At the base we got a short boat ride along the river before being flown back upo the rim. i don't know which was the most scary, flying up or down!

we had a delicious lunch prepared by native american indians. we sat and ate this by the edge of the canyon. the scenery was stunning, with the sun's rays flickering on the rock face and the colours continually changing. i have been to many places but this was breathtaking.

we made our way back to las vegas after a memorable day and i would love to do this all over again one day!

  • The fishing-themed decor complements the bourbon shrimp sauté, broiled salmon, snow crab legs, breaded oysters, and frog legs.
