  • Kolob Reservoir Road, Zion National Park

Also called Kolob Terrace Road, this makes for a great scenic drive, taking in the multicolored Moenkopi Formation rocks, North Creek, Tabernacle Dome (a mass of red rock), cinder cones, canyons, valleys, and forests.

  • Las Vegas National Golf Club

Established in 1961, this was the scene of champion Tiger Woods’ first PGA (Professional Golf Association) victory in the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational. Soft spikes are preferred (some Las Vegas courses prohibit spikes of any kind).

  • This was the first master-planned multicourse golf resort on Native American land. The Snow and Sun Mountain courses were designed by Pete Dye, who has designed 11 of the world’s top 100 courses.

  • Las Vegas Tour and Travel

The Indian Country Tour begins with a flight over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, and continues to the Grand Canyon. Participants then take a bus tour along the canyon’s rim. A barbecue lunch is included.

  • In Zion eastern fence lizards are among 13 local species, while chuckwallas, short-horned, and collared lizards all inhabit the Grand Canyon. Most common in Death Valley is the banded lizard.

  • Artifacts salvaged from Pueblo Grande de Nevada – now known as the Lost City – before it was inundated by Lake Mead are displayed at this pueblo-style museum. Exhibits include a reconstruction of the village, hunting weapons, and pottery.

  • The confluence of the Little Colorado and Colorado Rivers has carved out the great Marble Canyon (which is also a great place for trout fishing).

  • These shy creatures roam the Grand Canyon, Zion, and the mountains around Death Valley, helping to control the small mammal populations.

  • “Mouse” was the name of a Native American outlaw. The moderately easy, self-guiding trail to Mouse’s Tank (a series of natural catchments) passes the best petroglyphs in the park.

  • The 7-hour Hoover Dam Discovery Tour includes a 90- minute ride aboard the Desert Princess paddlewheeler and a visit to Ethel M’s Chocolate Factory. They also offer tours to the Grand Canyon.
