  • Les Folies Bergère

The longest running show in Las Vegas began in 1979, a century after the Paris production hit the stage. Like the original, the Vegas show is predicated upon glamorous showgirls wearing spangles, sequins, and little else. The production numbers are lavish, the music tuneful. While the first show each evening is suitable for families, the second is topless.

  • Lord of the Dance

This show takes Irish dance to dizzying new heights. Michael Flatley’s variations on the traditional steps make the performances especially exhilarating.

  • This internationally acclaimed musical, based on the music of 1970s pop group ABBA, is packed with hits including Dancing Queen , Money Money Money , Take a Chance on Me , and, of course, Mamma Mia!

  • Luciano Pavarotti inaugurated the 12,000-seat events center in 1999. Since then, performers as diverse as tenor Andrea Bocelli (with the Russian Symphony Orchestra), Ricky Martin, and Bette Midler have graced its stage. During one month in particular, the Mandalay Bay Center was exceptionally eclectic, staging as it did a heavyweight bout between Evander Holyfield and John Ruiz, skater Katarina Witt’s Kisses on Ice show, and Bocelli’s vocal performance.

  • Mystère

Created especially for Treasure Island, Mystère is an enchanting circus that – like all Cirque du Soleil productions – has a mystical thread running through it. The costumes are innovative and colorful.

  • The 800-seat theater presents several headliners each month. The list of past performers is a veritable “who’s who” of the entertainment world: Jerry Lewis; Willie Nelson; Peter, Paul, and Mary; Roy Clark; the Righteous Brothers; and Crystal Gayle, to name but a few.

  • The stadium hosts some of the biggest entertainment and sporting events in the country. Built in 1971, the seating capacity has been increased over the years: 40,000 spectators can now be accommodated.

  • Since the new Aladdin Hotel opened in the summer of 2000, its theater has been the venue for such productions as Forever Swing , the Broadway musical Fosse , and Les Misérables , as well as a concert by British musical star Sarah Brightman.

  • Thomas & Mack Center

Named for two leading bankers who financed the project, Thomas & Mack’s gala grand opening in 1983 was nothing if not star-studded, featuring as it did Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Diana Ross. The center serves as the venue for rodeos, university basketball games, circuses, world championship boxing matches, and concerts. The record box-office takings for a single event were more than $6 million for the Holyfield vs Bowe heavyweight boxing bout in 1992; the record attendance for a single concert was 17,664.

  • “O”

“O” , staged by Cirque du Soleil, is a circus quite unlike any other. The whole show revolves around the theme of water (hence the name, as in the French eau ). Seven hydraulic lifts raise and lower the water levels throughout the performance, allowing for spectacular diving and other feats.
