The hotel’s public area echoes famous New York City spots; the casino currently ranks as a top spot with the younger crowd, and they dress to be seen.

With pagoda-style roofs, a traditional Chinese entrance gate, and a statue of the mythical monk Tripitaka, with his companions – a pig, a soldier, and a monkey – Chinatown Plaza offers a delightful blend of East and West. Stores specialize in both American and Eastern necessities and Asian luxuries. Chinese music wafts through the covered walkways (a misting system keeps shoppers cool in summer). Good stops include Chong Hing Jewelers, Valley Oriental Art Works and Paintings, Marco Polo Furniture, and Chinatown Florist. Not surprisingly, the restaurants are the best in town for Asian cuisine.

Over the course of almost 30 years Circus Circus has entertained hundreds of thousands of spectators with their impressive shows. Stars have included the Flying Farfans of Argentina, the miniature-bicycle rider Charles Charles of Paris, and Russian acrobat Valerie Akishin. With performances every half hour, you can pop back for different shows to catch a wide variety of acts.

This is certainly one of the city’s more unusual attractions: an indoor rainstorm falling on a 155-ft (50-m) merchant ship.

These two attractions come as a package. Watch the dolphins give a brief but characteristically perfect performance, then go on a tour, which includes underwater viewing. The Secret Garden is an oasis of trees and greenery, with unusual residents, including an elephant, a snow leopard, panthers, Bengal tigers, and rare white lions. You are allowed to stay in the garden as long as you like.

Along with all the outdoor activity on Fremont Street, there’s action inside the casinos, too. They may not be as glamorous as the big hotels on the Strip, but the Fremont Street and other downtown clubs have more history – some date back to the 1940s. They are also known for their bargain meals.

Take a free tour to view the glass-enclosed, spotless, white kitchens where the diligent candy-makers concoct their sweet creations. Find out what the large stainless steel machines do, and admire the finished confections wrapped in their foil of emerald, ruby, sapphire, and other jewel colors. Every tour participant receives a free chocolate at the end of the tour. Outside the factory is a lovely cactus garden, with plants clearly identified.
-
An increasing number of supersize signs like the one at MGM are appearing on the Strip. Look up at one of these to gain a new perspective on your fellow men.
-
Do some detective work on where the stars are each day by calling 702 486 2727. This number will tell you the daily casting calls and where filming is taking place.

The cafés, benches, and slot-machine seats within the shopping complex are good for relaxation and people-watching (see The Forum Shops at Caesars).
