Las Vegas

The Entertainment Capital of the World offers just about everything: the world’s largest hotels; the brightest stars in show business; shops and restaurants that rival any on earth. It’s true, too, that the lights are brighter in Las Vegas. Yet you don’t have to go far from the glamour and glitter to find the natural beauty of lakes and the desert as well.

  • A quick 20 minute drive from the madness of the strip takes you here to Red Rock Canyon, an amazing conservation area made up of large red sandstone formations. You can drive around the canyon, stopping along the way at various points to get out and follow the trails allowing you to get up close to the canyon. Its a great place to relax and chill out and relax in a city thats renowned for exactly the opposite.

  • The Border Grill is the brain child of chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Food Network’s “Too Hot Tamales”. This is a fantastic bistro, with amazing pork tacos, and Sangria to die for. Located at the Mandalay Bay on the strip, this restaurant is a must see for those that love Mexican cuisine. You can choose to dine in the restaurant or on the the upstairs porch. If it is chilly outside there is no need to fear because "The Border Grill" has heaters right next to your table to keep you and your food warm...

  • The Cheesecake Factory serves much more than just cheesecake!

Walk through the front doors and you know you're in for something special! It's a great place to grab a byte or just relax and watch the world go by.

There offering more than 200 menu selections including Appetizers, Pizza, Pasta, Seafood, Steaks, Salads, Sandwiches, and more. My favourite was the Factory Burger.

But make sure you save room for dessert! Try one of the 50 delicious cheesecakes....

    Have fun

  • we went to the west rim of the canyon by coach, which we had boarded at las vegas, and it was an amazing journey. We passed joshua trees and spotted the odd coyote. We also saw lake mead and the hoover dam. on the latter part of the journey, we travelled a while on a bumpy dirt road! On arrival we boarded a helicopter which took us to the base of the canyon. wow! as we flew over the edge of the canyon, it felt as though we were jumping off a cliff!

At the base we got a short boat ride along the river before being flown back upo the rim. i don't know which was the most scary, flying up or down!

we had a delicious lunch prepared by native american indians. we sat and ate this by the edge of the canyon. the scenery was stunning, with the sun's rays flickering on the rock face and the colours continually changing. i have been to many places but this was breathtaking.

we made our way back to las vegas after a memorable day and i would love to do this all over again one day!

  • The Mirage

Rooms are big, TVs are big, bed have the best sheets and incredibly comfortable mattress toppers. All the soft furnishings in the room are available for sale in the gift shop too! I would have liked our bathroom to be a bit bigger but that might vary from room to room. We asked for a view as it was my birthday but as we had arrived late we were told that we might have to come and be asked to be moved to a room with a view the next day. We didn't fancy moving about and it turned out that from our window we could see Trump Tower, The Venetian, Harrah's and the top of the volcano anyway! We really enjoyed the food, drinks and gambling in the The Mirage too. The poolside area is fabulous and the large frozen cocktails, while expensive, are to die for! When you walk around Vegas and compare the 3 star hotels to this you really see the difference. I loved it and would definitely stay there again should I be lucky enough to go back!

  • Normally held in the first and second week of December the Rodeo is a great entertainer. If you haven't got tickets to the Rodeo don't worry because the whole of Las Vegas is alive with everything cowboy and Rodeo. The Excalibur Hotel and Casino always has live Country & Western music, you'll see more cowboys in the bar than you have ever seen in any episode of Dallas. The Golden Nugget normally has some headline acts from Nashville performing and a huge party. Head off to the convention centre where every day there are different things going on from live chat shows to a Miss Rodeo pagent. There are hundreds of stalls selling everything Rodeo and Cowboy, you'll be able to get the Stetson you always wanted and in any colour to. The atmosphere around the town is second to none. The wonderful Cowboy charm and the drawl of southern accents is wonderful. They don't even mind explaining the rules to the Rednecks.

  • This is a show not to be missed, even though you have seen it in other cities, the Vegas show beats them all. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has excelled himself.

  • Three golden towers that sparkle in the desert sunshine, this hotel has the WOW factor! All rooms are suites with balconies and have the most comfortable beds. All mod cons provided with the bathroom alone as big as a small apartment. My top tip? Indulge in a spa bath big enough for two while watching TV - bliss after the hustle and bustle of Fabulous Las Vegas. Can't wait to go back!

  • The Venetian

The hotel is 'glamour' and 'comfort' personified as it feels like walking into a surreal world. It is vast, with various attractions integral at the hotel itself ie shows, casino and club but the location means you can wander around to other attractions nearby. It is worth a visit as the building itself is unique and it encloses an array of shops, restaurants, you can even have a 'gondola' ride in the canal. I can highly recommend the hotel and of course, Las Vegas' as well.
