  • First stop on this 10-hour tour is the ghost town of Grafton, where segments of the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were filmed. Then it’s on to the east entrance, the most spectacular entry way into Zion National Park.

  • Aguereberry Point, Death Valley

High in the Panamint Mountains, the point offers panoramic views across most of Death Valley, taking in Furnace Creek, the snow-capped Sierra Nevada, Devil’s Golf Course, and other landmarks. The point is accessible by mountain bike, but you’ll need excellent bike-handling skills to make the climb; there is a 13-mile (21-km) loop ride for those who want to try it.

  • Hoover Dam day trips are offered, along with tours of the Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon.

  • The most famous petroglyph here depicts an atlatl , a notched stick used to add speed and distance to a thrown spear.

  • ATV Adventures

Open-air jeep tours through the Valley of Fire’s back country to view wildlife, plants, and formations. Lunch and hotel pickup are included.

  • Year-round guided trips in four-wheel all-terrain vehicles and jeeps. Three-hour to three-day outings are available. The company is based in St. George, Utah.

  • Black bears are occasionally seen on the higher plateaus at Zion, but both they and grizzlies have long since disappeared from the Grand Canyon area, and no bears are known to live in the mountains surrounding Death Valley.

  • Red-tailed hawks are the most common predatory birds in all three parks, but at the Grand Canyon look out for the king of the skies, the golden eagle.

  • The North Rim of Grand Canyon may be more remote than the South Rim, but it is worth the effort. From Bright Angel Point (situated on an ancient trail) are spectacular canyon views.

  • The entire 19-mile (30-km) down-and-back round-trip descends 4,400 ft (1,342 m) and takes most hikers two days. Rest houses and a campground on the route.
