The Strip

Walk along the Las Vegas Strip and you’ll see that some of the best things in Las Vegas life are free – especially when it comes to sightseeing and entertainment. It costs nothing to walk through the hotel-casinos, and you can window-shop to your heart’s content in their shopping promenades. The hotel architecture makes for an attraction in its own right: where else would you find an Egyptian sphinx, a Polynesian paradise, and a medieval castle in the same block? In addition, almost every hotel-casino has some sort of free entertainment going on outside its doors.

  • A vast property with child-friendly attractions.

  • Coney Island Emporium

Try out Big Apple-themed versions of traditional games such as coin pitches and shooting galleries, with New York-style food close at hand.

  • This is certainly one of the city’s more unusual attractions: an indoor rainstorm falling on a 155-ft (50-m) merchant ship.

  • Traditional carnival attractions take on a new excitement with medieval knights racing around on their steeds.

  • An increasing number of supersize signs like the one at MGM are appearing on the Strip. Look up at one of these to gain a new perspective on your fellow men.

  • Do some detective work on where the stars are each day by calling 702 486 2727. This number will tell you the daily casting calls and where filming is taking place.

  • The cafés, benches, and slot-machine seats within the shopping complex are good for relaxation and people-watching (see The Forum Shops at Caesars).

  • More than 1,000 fountains perform a water ballet above Lake Bellagio, in defiance of the parched, baking desert that surrounds the city. Soaring as high as 240 ft (73 m) in the air, the cascading water is choreographed to classical music. Bellagio and the other properties in the Mirage group use incandescent lighting rather than neon, which helps make the Italian village surrounding the lake a lovely backdrop for the dancing waters.

  • The breathtaking choreography of the fountain displays at Bellagio offers some of the best free entertainment in Las Vegas.

  • Games of the Gods

Also known as Segaworld, this is a favorite with local teenagers, for its virtual racing cars, flight simulators, and other tests of coordination; there are games for younger children, too.
